Matty G is delivering his first sermon on Sunday. And while he doesn’t like the recognition or the publicity or the accolades, I for one am tremendously excited to learn how God is going to use him in the pastoral ministry. The fruits of his labor are starting to bud and sprout, and I couldn’t be happier for him!
I think what is giving me pause the most in all of this is being able to look back 10+ years, when we were trying to forge a similar future, but during a far more tumultuous time (if you can believe it). Our lives were wracked by debt, poverty, illness, joblessness/underemployment, and generally I don’t think we were yet ready for the rigors of pastoral ministry.
(…Dang. Is it sick that I’d rather live 2020 five more times than 2010 once?)
And now here we are. We’ve lived for better or for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health — and God, in His infinite faithfulness, has brought us here. And I pray we never lose sight of that faithfulness.
